How Do I Know If The Lecture Will Match My Knowledge Level?

Since Lidrosh.com offers lectures suitable to a wide range of people, from total beginners to advanced scholars, we’ve devised a simple system to help you figure out if a lecture is appropriate for you. All you need to do is select the lecture and you’ll see a clear designation advising you of the level of knowledge and background required to appreciate the lecture. Of course, you may try any lecture and decide for yourself as these designations are rather broad, but these should help you get a sense of what you’ll find enjoyable.

How Long Is Each Lecture?

The lectures run different lengths ranging from 30-90 minutes. Every lecture is marked with an approximate length to make it easy for you to decide.

How Do I Find The Lecture Of My Choice?

That’s easy! Since Lidrosh.com features over 500 lectures on all aspects of Judaism, we’ve worked very hard to ensure that you’ll have an easy time locating the lecture that you’re looking for. The first thing to do is figure out what category it belongs in and look for that category in the toolbar at the head of the page. There are six categories that contain a total of 24 specific categories to choose from.

The Six Categories are:

1.      Torah Study

a)      Parshah Review – An in-depth review of every single Torah portion especially helpful for beginners but appropriate for intermediate levels as well.

b)      This Week’s Parshah – A collection of all of the lectures on our website related to the Parshah of that week.

c)      Torah Topics – This section is primarily for people who have at least minimal background, preferably even more than that. The lectures usually focus on one aspect of the Torah, a concept, an event, or a specific person, and treat them in great depth. The lectures often touch on mystical concepts and while most of them last only 30 minutes, some are longer than that.

2. History/Issues

a)      Israel – Here you’ll find all lectures relating specifically to the land of Israel, it’s holy nature, it’s history, our attachment to it, and so much more.

b)      Exile & Redemption – Since exile and redemption is such an intrinsic part of the Jewish experience, we’ve decided to make it a category of its own. In here, you’ll find lectures dealing with both practical and esoteric aspects of exile and redemption. Lectures discussing concepts such as Elijah and Messiah are found here as well.

3. Holidays

a)      High Holidays – Month of Elul, Rosh Hashanah, 10 Days of Repentance, Yom Kippur

b)      Succos

c)      Chanukah

d)      Purim

e)      Pesach – Including laws of Omer

f)      The Omer – Lag Ba’Omer and more

g)      Shavuos

h)      The Three Weeks – Fast of 17th of Tamus, Tisha B’av

4. Family

a)      Women’s Issues

b)      Relationships

c)      Parenting

d)      Modesty

5. Spirituality

a)      God – Faith, Proofs, Hashgachah Pratis etc.

b)      Philosophy

c)      Spiritual Growth – Specifically relating to areas of self-improvement

d)      Prayer

6. Judaism

a)      Basic Judaism – Laws, Facts, and Concepts related to basic knowledge essential for every Jew.

b)      Shabbat – All things related to this special day

c)      Sefer HaMitzvos – Over 90 relevant commandments receive special attention in an effort to help us appreciate the essence of each. These lectures are not a review of their laws, but rather, an inside look at the fundamental nature of the Mitzvah. Each lasts for 30 minutes and is most suitable for someone with at least a minimal level of knowledge.

What If I Have A Question Or Comment On The Lecture?

At Lidrosh.com we know that nobody likes to be lectured to and therefore we’ve provided a unique forum for our listeners to submit their questions and comments to our rabbis for review. We cannot promise to respond individually to each question and comment but we will select the ones we feel most helpful and include them along with a response on the lectures page so that you and others will benefit from them.

Is There Anything I Can Do To Help Your Website?

We’re really glad you asked about this because there’s a lot you can do to help us realize our goal of teaching Torah to each and every Jew at no cost.

For starters, please consider Gold Membership and ask your friends to do the same.  However, given the astronomical costs of running a website of this size, it is not hard to imagine why Gold Memberships do not cover a fraction of the costs associated with this site. Therefore, we’d like you to consider sponsoring a day, week, month, or year of Torah study, in the honor or memory of a spouse, child, parent, relative, or significant other. There is no better opportunity to invest your money than by supporting Lidrosh.com. Through our website we reach thousands of Jews each day and for many, we are their introduction to their rich heritage. Sponsorship opportunities are explained in detail here or of you prefer to discuss your options with someone over the phone, we’ll be happy to accommodate that as well. Please contact us by clicking here or call us at 248 569-2034 and we will be glad to discuss sponsorship opportunities with you.

Lidrosh is fully accredited 501(c)(3) and all contributions are 100% tax-deductible.
